Meaningful Lives is an initiative of MiLife-Victoria, designed to deliver exceptional quality support to people with disability, so that they can live meaningful lives.MiLife-Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation that has delivered disability services for over 30 years.
Too often, people with disabilities and their families are told what they CAN'T do. Many go through their lives thinking that there are limits on what they can achieve. They get the message that they can't contribute value to their community. So, we changed our focus to what people CAN do.
In 2023, we realised that we needed to do things differently.
While dedicated to outstanding support quality, we weren’t achieving what we set out to.
So, we asked ourselves why?
The answer was that we had done things the same way for over 30 years. We were institutionalised.
We were so focused on doing what we’d always done, we didn’t realise that this wasn’t achieving the outcomes that people deserved. We were never going to see our vision become a reality, nor achieve our mission. Rather than just reform, we knew we needed to transform into something new. A new identity, with a new philosophy and a new approach.
We became dream makers, not caretakers. When someone comes to us with a dream, we don’t ask ‘If?’ we ask ‘How?’. We don’t ‘look after’ people with disability, we support people to find what’s meaningful to them and encourage them reach for the stars.
From this, Meaningful Lives was born, and it’s under this initiative that we are creating our new approach to exceptional disability support.
